If you meet a single man at a bar or at a party, how on earth are you supposed to know if he is telling the truth or lying when he says he is not married? You like him and decide to start dating him. • He hums and haws when you ask for his home phone number and instead tells you to contact him only on his cell phone.
• He never calls you or answers your calls at regular hours. When he does call you, it is usually some odd hour early in the morning or really, really late at night. Of course he’ll have a list of ready-made excuses about why he could not call you earlier or answer the phone when you called him.
• He never talks about his friends or his family and manages to side-step any questions you may ask about them on some pretext or the other.
• He always makes excuses when you suggest meeting on holidays, weekends or any public place.
• He refuses to tell you where he lives and just ignores you when you ask for his exact address.
• Did you happen to accidentally glance at the family portrait when he opened his wallet? Chances are that was a snapshot of this wife and kids. Hardly anybody goes around carrying photographs of friends in their wallets.
